According to Ross Young, the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultant, Apple's plans to introduce OLED displays in MacBook Pro models will not materialize for at least another three years. Young explained that it will take time for Apple's supply chain partners to establish the necessary manufacturing lines for mass production of laptop-sized OLED panels. Consequently, MacBook Pro models with OLED displays are not anticipated to launch until 2026 or 2027, as previously noted by Young, a reliable source for display-related information about Apple products.
The transition to OLED technology in these laptops promises advantages over current MacBook Pro models with LCD screens, including enhanced brightness, a higher contrast ratio with deeper blacks, improved power efficiency for extended battery life, and more, as reported by MacRumors.
Young also disclosed that the next-generation iPad Pro models, expected to debut in 2024, will feature OLED displays, while the first iPad Air and iPad mini models with OLED displays are not expected until 2026. He confirmed that these devices will continue to use LCD screens next year.
Additionally, another report from Omdia suggested that Apple might consider shifting the iPad Air and iPad mini to OLED panels starting in 2026, following the integration of an OLED panel in an iPad model slated for 2024. The OLED panels for the iPad Pro are expected to be supplied by LG Display and Samsung, and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with Mini LED backlight will transition to OLED technology in the future.
While these developments have yet to be officially confirmed, industry insiders, including Mark Gurman, have previously reported similar plans for the 2024 iPad Pro model.
